US State Department approves sale of air surveillance radar systems "Sentinel" (Sentinel) of Romania, the American Embassy in Bucharest announced last night, quoted by BTA.

„The Government of Romania has requested the purchase of up to four AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radar systems, the embassy website said. The "Sentinel" detects a wide range of air targets and will significantly improve Romania's ability to deter and defend against potential threats.

The first two systems, totaling about $90 million, will be funded primarily through grants from the US State Department's Foreign Military Financing Fund (FMF).

U.S. Ambassador to Romania Kathleen Kavalek emphasized that these radar systems will increase the early warning capability of potential threats, protecting Romanian cities and the country's critical infrastructure.
