Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to Tehran today, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced, quoted by TASS, BTA reports.
"On February 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a working visit to Tehran at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi," the official statement said.
Lavrov and Araghchi are expected to hold in-depth talks on bilateral relations, which have officially reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership following the signing of a new foundational treaty between Russia and Iran in Moscow on January 17.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the main emphasis in the negotiations will be on strengthening economic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and transport. The two sides will discuss the implementation of key joint projects aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial trade ties.
In addition, Lavrov and Araghchi will exchange views on a number of current international issues. These include the situation in Syria, the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Yemen and the Persian Gulf region, as well as the prospects for the Middle East peace process. The agenda will also include the situation surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program, as well as issues related to the Caspian region.
