Car crashes into crowd in German city of Stuttgart, at least eight injured

Although the fire department has described the incident as an accident, police have not described the circumstances surrounding the incident

Several people were seriously injured after a car crashed into a group of people near a tram stop in the center of the southwestern German city of Stuttgart today, the fire department reported, DPA reported. According to a publication by the Stuttgart police in "Ex", at least eight people were injured, BTA reports.

The driver of the car has been detained, police announced.

The German newspaper “Bild” wrote that at least six people were certainly injured, and a police spokesman told the newspaper that “the exact number is not yet known”. Police added that some of the injured were seriously injured.

According to witnesses, the car also hit a woman with a stroller, and footage from the scene of the accident shows a broken stroller on the city rail tracks.

Although the fire department described the incident as an accident, the police did not characterize the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident occurred at the “Olgaeck” tram stop in the city center in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The scene of the incident has been cordoned off and firefighters, police and rescue workers are at the scene.

According to a police spokeswoman, the use of the stop by public transport has been suspended. According to her, witnesses are currently being questioned.

The vehicle that caused the accident is a dark luxury SUV “Mercedes-Benz”.
