Russian air defense forces have thwarted an attack by seven Ukrainian drones aimed at Moscow, the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said, quoted by Reuters, TASS and BTA.

Teams from Russian emergency services have gone to the site where the debris from the drones fell.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on his country's allies to help it develop interceptor drones, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

He said the drones were essential for protecting the country from air strikes.

In his midnight address, Zelensky said that at a meeting with senior Ukrainian military was discussed the use of technology to develop drones capable of shooting down other drones.

“This is one of the most advanced technologies of modern warfare. I have instructed the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry to work more actively with partners to finance the production of such interceptors,“ Zelensky said.

Zelensky has repeatedly called on Ukraine's Western allies to provide a larger number of modern air defense systems to protect cities from air strikes.

Last October, the president told arms manufacturers that Ukraine was capable of producing 4 million drones per year and was rapidly accelerating the production of other weapons. Ukraine had practically no drone production before the Russian invasion in February 2022.
