US: Actual Tariffs on Chinese Goods Are 50%

Geneva Agreements Do Not Affect Some Tariffs Introduced Before Trade Dispute Escalated

The US tariff rate on Chinese goods is currently around 50%, US trade negotiator Jamieson Greer told Fox News.

“President Trump spent his entire campaign saying he wanted to impose 10% tariffs globally and higher tariffs, around 50-60%, on China“, he said. - Overall, now the tariffs on China are 50% and 10% worldwide."

As Greer explained, the agreements reached in Geneva between Washington and Beijing do not affect a number of tariffs introduced before the escalation of the trade conflict between the countries; He also noted that as part of the agreement, China had agreed to lift restrictions on exports of a number of goods to the US, including rare earth metals.

“We have reached a point where we need to converge our positions with the Chinese side, which is why we have made so much effort to achieve this. Last weekend brought a very pragmatic result“, he added.

The US has raised additional tariffs on Chinese imports three times, eventually reaching 145%. In April, China, as a countermeasure, introduced tariffs on all US products, increasing them to 125%. Trade and economic talks between the US and China were held in Switzerland on May 10-11. On May 12, the countries announced mutual tariff reductions from May 14, 2025.
