Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the enthronement of Pope Leo XIV on Monday, along with many other world leaders, the Vatican said, quoted by Reuters.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who clashed with Zelensky at the White House in February, will lead the U.S. delegation, which also includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Zelensky would be happy to meet other leaders on the sidelines of the ceremony, a senior adviser to him told Reuters this week.

When he went to the Vatican for Pope Francis' funeral on April 26, Zelensky held private talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in St. Peter's Basilica.

Rubio said he would discuss efforts to end Russia's war in Ukraine with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who was the late Pope Francis' envoy for the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In remarks to reporters before the meeting, the American diplomat suggested that the Vatican could be a place to facilitate dialogue.

"I wouldn't call it a mediator, but it's certainly a place that I think both sides would feel comfortable coming to," Rubio told reporters.

Other leaders expected tomorrow include the presidents of Israel, Peru and Nigeria, the prime ministers of Italy, Canada and Australia, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Many European monarchs will also be in attendance, including Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
