A Bulgarian family of four was rescued early this morning after they found themselves stranded on Mount Olympus in northern Greece due to adverse weather conditions last night, the online edition of the "Kathimerini" newspaper reported, BTA reported.
The fire department received a call last night from the family, who reported that they had lost orientation in the Zonaria area, at an altitude of about 2,600 meters. Navigation was difficult due to snow, strong winds and rain, the publication notes.
The parents - both experienced mountaineers - were accompanied by their two children - an 11-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. They were in regular contact with emergency teams during the rescue operation overnight, reporting that they were unharmed.
After finding the family, rescue teams helped them reach a mountain shelter about 600 meters lower, where they were able to rest and recover.
