Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, who is on a two-day working visit to Moscow.
The Russian diplomatic mission announced that during the upcoming meeting the ministers will discuss the current state of affairs in the Transcaucasus, Libya, Syria and the Black Sea region.
"They will hold an in-depth exchange of views on the development of the situation after the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul. The topic of safe shipping in the Black Sea will be touched upon," the diplomatic mission said in a statement. As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova noted at the briefing, the heads of the foreign policy departments will discuss the prospects for strengthening trade and economic cooperation in modern conditions. In addition, the ministers are expected to review the schedule of bilateral contacts at the highest and highest levels.
The ministers last met in April this year during Lavrov's working visit to Turkey. Then, as part of the trip, Lavrov took part in the fourth diplomatic forum in Antalya.
The Russian side expects that the upcoming ministerial meeting in Moscow will be an important contribution to deepening ties between the two countries and "forming a more predictable regional security architecture".
Fidan's visit to Moscow comes ten days after the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul, after which the parties agreed to exchange prisoners of war according to the formula "1000 for 1000", to present their vision of a possible future ceasefire, outlining it in detail, and to continue the negotiation process.
Last week, Lavrov said that there would be a second round of talks with Kiev on the Ukrainian settlement issues and that the Russian side's work on the memorandum was already at an advanced stage. To date, neither the date nor the venue of a possible second round of talks has been announced. Istanbul is considered the most likely location at the moment.
On Monday, Fidan was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the main topic being the Ukrainian issue. Earlier that day, it was reported that the Turkish Foreign Ministry chief had met with Russian diplomat Medinsky in the Russian capital. In addition, as a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported, Fidan plans to hold a meeting in Moscow with the director of Russian foreign intelligence, Sergei Naryshkin.
