Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said during his visit to Uzbekistan that authoritarian countries are more economically efficient than democratic ones. This was reported by the DPA agency, quoted by Focus.

Fico stressed that Europe must seriously consider reforming its system of governance based on free elections if it wants to remain globally competitive.

He praised countries such as Uzbekistan, China and Vietnam for their ability to act decisively on economic issues and stressed that democratic countries often suffer from delays in the decision-making process.

Later, the Slovak Prime Minister clarified that he was not calling for the rejection of democracy, but for a rethinking of the way political systems function. According to him, the excessive number of political parties in government weakens state efficiency.

“If you have a hundred political parties, you cannot compete. If the government consists of four political forces, you cannot compete“, Fico said.
