A KF-16 fighter jet of the Republic of Korea Air Force crashed during an exercise in the US state of Alaska, Yonhap reported.
It is stated that during an attempt to take off at around 09:02 Seoul time (03:02 Bulgarian time) as part of the "Red Flag - Alaska" exercise, the two pilots of the plane had to urgently eject. They were not injured, but were taken to the nearest hospital.
Yonhap indicates that the two-seater fighter jet caught fire, but the exact extent of the damage is not known. The South Korean Air Force is in contact with the US side to determine the cause of the incident.
A day earlier, it became known that the Republic of Korea Army was conducting an investigation into the fact that a recruit had left a machine gun in a rented civilian car. In April, during an exercise, a South Korean light attack aircraft lost machine gun containers and empty fuel tanks during a flight. On March 6, during the exercise, two fighter jets dropped eight bombs on a South Korean village outside the training range.
On May 29, four people were killed when a P-3C patrol aircraft crashed in Pohang. The crew was practicing takeoff. Pohang is home to the Republic of Korea Navy Air Command.
