No progress is expected in the interaction between Russia and the US on issues of strategic stability, said the Russian Ambassador to the US Alexander Darchiev in an interview with TASS - the first since the beginning of his work in Washington on March 26.
“Interaction with the US on issues of strategic stability, as the Russian side has repeatedly emphasized, cannot be isolated from the general situation in the military-political sphere“, he noted. “In conditions where, under the previous administration, Washington became a de facto party to the conflict in Ukraine, and military assistance to the Kiev regime continues after the change of power in the White House, we cannot expect progress in this sensitive area.
Personal contacts at the highest and highest levels are planned between Russia and the United States, but there are still no concrete agreements for a personal meeting between the presidents of the two countries, continued Darchiev.
“Contacts at the highest and highest levels require careful preparation in terms of achieving significant results. At this stage, direct dialogue and exchange of signals are supported by intensive telephone communication“, said the diplomat, answering a question about whether a meeting between Putin and Trump is planned, as well as new face-to-face talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “As for the possibility of a personal meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, there are still no specific agreements on this issue“, Darchiev noted.
