Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as the overall situation in the Middle East, in a phone call with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This was reported by the Anadolu Agency, citing a press release from the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate, BTA reports.
During the call, Erdogan stressed that “the spiral of violence that began after the Israeli attack puts the security of the region under serious threat“. He assured that Turkey is making active efforts to end both the military actions in the Gaza Strip and the tension between Tel Aviv and Tehran.
The president also expressed concern that the latest escalation should not overshadow the crisis in Gaza, warning of the danger of “Israel's occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank“.
On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing high-ranking commanders and leading scientists. Iran responded with retaliatory attacks, and the exchange of strikes between the two countries continues.
