Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that possible direct US aid to Israel could seriously destabilize the situation in the Middle East, where the air war between Iran and Israel has been going on for six days, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
“This would be a step that would seriously destabilize the entire situation“, Ryabkov said, quoted by the Interfax news agency. He added that Moscow is in contact with both countries - Israel and Iran - and has urged the US not to provide military assistance or even consider such "speculative options".
In a separate statement, the head of Russia's foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, described the situation between Tehran and Tel Aviv as "already critical".
Earlier today, a source familiar with internal discussions in Washington revealed that US President Donald Trump and his team are considering various scenarios, including possible participation in strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in support of Israel.
In a post on social media, Trump even hinted at the possibility of being "eliminated" Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said, but added: "We will not eliminate (kill!) him - at least for now."
Israel launched air strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, scientists and senior military personnel last Friday in a surprise operation that Moscow condemned as "unprovoked and illegal." Iran responded by attacking Israeli cities with missiles and drones.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who signed a strategic partnership treaty with Iran in January, called for an immediate end to hostilities between the two countries.
