IAEA admits: We cannot yet assess the damage at the Fodrou nuclear facility

Rafael Grossi called on the parties to resume negotiations so that inspectors can resume their work on the ground

„Military escalation threatens human lives and delays finding a diplomatic solution to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons“.

This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, convened in connection with the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

„Let us not allow the window of opportunity for diplomacy to close. "Let's not allow the non-proliferation regime to collapse, regardless of personal positions and views," he added.

The IAEA cannot yet assess the extent of the damage to the Fordow nuclear facility, Grossi said, as quoted by the agency's official website.

“It is clear that Fordow was directly affected, but the extent of the damage to the enriched uranium production facility cannot be precisely determined,“ Grossi said.

Grossi called on the parties to resume negotiations so that IAEA inspectors can return to Iran's nuclear facilities.

"We must try to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. The IAEA is ready to play its indispensable role in this process. We have negotiated with Iran, we have negotiated with the United States. We must work for peace," Grossi said.
