UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine. International analysts have already described them as the most extensive since the beginning of Russian military aggression, AFP reported.
These strikes disrupted the power supply to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, once again highlighting the ongoing risks to nuclear safety. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is alarmed by this dangerous escalation and the growing number of civilian casualties.
This is stated in the official position released by the press service of the UN Secretary-General.
Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited by international law and must stop immediately, the position of the Secretary-General of the international organization says.
In addition, Guterres called for an "immediate and unconditional" ceasefire as a first step towards a "just, comprehensive and sustainable" peace within the framework of the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
