The French government expects Arab countries to condemn the Palestinian Islamist movement “Hamas” at a high-level UN conference in New York today, dedicated to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said, quoted by DPA and BTA.
The call was made after Paris said it intended to recognize a Palestinian state.
This would be the first such condemnation of “Hamas” and would seal the final isolation of "Hamas", Barrot said in an interview with the Sunday edition of the French newspaper “Tribune”.
The two-day conference, chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, is expected to discuss a possible two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
“Hamas” seized power in the Gaza Strip in 2007. After the Islamist movement's attack on Israel and the massacre of civilians on October 7, 2023, the Israeli army launched a military operation to eliminate the Islamist organization, DPA recalls.
In New York, European countries will confirm their intention to recognize Palestine as a state, Barrot added. “Half of the European countries have already done so. "Everyone else is considering it," he said.
Yemeni Houthis said yesterday that they would attack all ships belonging to companies that work with Israeli ports, regardless of their nationality, Reuters reported.
The Houthis explained that this was the fourth stage of their military operations against Israel.
A spokesman for the Yemeni movement said that the ships would be attacked if the companies did not heed the warnings issued by the Houthis, regardless of the destination of the particular ship.
"The Yemeni armed forces call on all parties, if they want to avoid escalation, to put pressure on the enemy to end its aggression and lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip," the spokesman added.
Since Israel launched its military operation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, The Houthis are attacking ships they believe are headed for Israel or are affiliated with the Jewish state. They portray their actions as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinians.
