136 pallets of humanitarian aid airdropped to Gaza

First fuel trucks enter enclave after five-month hiatus

The United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and several European countries, in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces, have airdropped 136 pallets of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in the past few hours, an IDF spokesman announced on Sunday, FOCUS reported.

On July 26, the Israel Defense Forces decided to resume airdrops of humanitarian aid to Gaza residents. It was also decided to establish humanitarian corridors for UN convoys that will deliver food and medicine to the residents of Gaza.

"In accordance with the instructions of the political leadership and within the framework of cooperation between Israel and the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, France, Germany and Belgium, the IDF, through the Directorate for Government Operations in the Territories, continues today (Sunday) a series of actions to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. In the past hours, 136 pallets of food were dropped for the residents of the Gaza Strip from six different countries, including Belgium, which joined the airdrop operations for the first time today“, the statement said.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on July 23 that the World Health Organization is observing a sharp increase in the number of deaths related to malnutrition in the Gaza Strip. This year, the organization has documented 21 deaths of children under five from this cause in Gaza. The WHO Director-General added that acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip affects more than 10% of the population, with more than 20% of pregnant and lactating women being tested for malnutrition, often severely. He noted that the hunger crisis is worsening due to the suspension of humanitarian aid deliveries and restrictions on access to it.

On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. Then, fighters from the Palestinian Hamas movement infiltrated border areas, opened fire on military and civilians, and took more than 200 hostages. According to the authorities, about 1,200 people were killed on the Israeli side.

In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation Iron Swords, which included strikes on civilian targets, and declared a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip: supplies of water, electricity, fuel, food and medicine were stopped. The fighting, interrupted by brief ceasefires, has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians and about 1,500 Israelis, spread to Lebanon and Yemen and provoked an exchange of rocket attacks between Israel and Iran.

The first fuel trucks in five months entered the Gaza Strip today. The fuel from Egypt has passed through the Rafah border crossing, the Egyptian television channel Al Qahera News reported.

"Two trucks carrying 107 tons of fuel have left for the Gaza Strip“, the channel said in a statement.

It is noted that the import of the fuel trucks was carried out under the supervision of the Egyptian Red Crescent.

According to Egyptian media, this is the first entry of fuel trucks through the Rafah border crossing in five months.

According to the authorities in Gaza, about 600 trucks with humanitarian aid should enter the strip daily to meet the minimum needs of the residents of the strip for food, fuel, basic necessities and medicine.
