The high price of tobacco products has become one of the main reasons why a third of Russians have quit smoking, TASS reports, citing a study by the insurance company "Rosgosstrakh" and the medical-technical holding "Doctis", BTA reports.
According to the results of the survey, 32% of the participants indicated that they were simply "tired of smoking". In second place among the reasons is the high price of cigarettes (31%). By 2025, the minimum price per pack in Russia is 135 rubles. Another 24% quit smoking due to health problems.
Social environment also has an influence. 22% quit the bad habit because no one in their immediate environment smokes or because smoking is no longer fashionable.
Russians use various methods to quit smoking. Self-control is the most effective. 40% of respondents have overcome their addiction with willpower alone. A small percentage have resorted to alternative means: 7% have used nicotine substitutes, 6% have sought help from a psychologist or support group, and another 7% have even sought the services of psychics.
The study shows that quitting smoking is not always an easy process: 39% succeeded the first time, while 37% needed ten or more attempts.
More than half of the participants (54%) have not smoked for more than three years. Another 9% quit between one and three years ago, and 11% within the last year.
