The conservative government of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is facing its lowest levels of public approval ever, just 100 days into its mandate, according to a public opinion poll conducted for ARD television, cited by DPA, BTA reports.

Only 29% of respondents express satisfaction with the government's performance, a drop of 10 percentage points compared to the previous month and the lowest result since it took office in May.

A full 69% of respondents said they were somewhat or completely dissatisfied with the government's governance, which includes Merz's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD).

Chancellor Merz also reports a decline in his personal rating, with only 32% of those surveyed approving of his work, which is 10 points less than the previous month. Two-thirds of respondents express dissatisfaction.

The survey was conducted by the Infratest dimap agency among 1,321 voters between Monday and Wednesday.

The growing public dissatisfaction is also reflected in electoral attitudes: if the elections were held today, the CDU/CSU would receive 27% of the vote, 3 points less than in July. At the same time, the far-right “Alternative for Germany“ (AfG) would get 24%, one point more and equaling its record from April.

Support for the Social Democrats remains stable at 13%, the Greens are holding steady at 12% and the Left at 10%.
