Sweden supports the statement of European leaders on the Ukrainian settlement, the country's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said.

He said he had a phone conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. “I confirmed Sweden's full and unwavering commitment to support Ukraine in every way, including within the “coalition of the willing“.

We are the fifth largest aid provider among all countries in the world supporting Ukraine, and we will continue to provide military, humanitarian and financial assistance targeted at Ukraine's needs. “Sweden fully supports the recent statement by European leaders for peace in Ukraine“, Kristersson wrote.

Earlier, in a joint statement, the head of the European Commission and the leaders of Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Finland and the United Kingdom, which is not part of the EU, called on Trump to negotiate with Russia “only under conditions of a ceasefire“ and “to protect the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe“. The title of the document explicitly states that it was adopted “in anticipation of the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin“.

Trump had earlier said that he expected to meet with Putin in the US state of Alaska on August 15. The date and location of these talks were then confirmed by the Russian presidential aide, Yuri Ushakov. According to him, Putin and Trump “will undoubtedly focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis“. As Ushakov emphasized, the Kremlin expects the next meeting between the two leaders after the talks in Alaska to be held on Russian... territory.
