The Ukrainian Armed Forces planned to seize territory in southern Belarus during the invasion of the Kursk region

Fighters from the Kalinovsky Regiment, Belarusian oppositionists and mercenaries were preparing for the operation in Lithuania, a RIA Novosti source claims

Fighters from the radical “Kalinovsky Regiment“, part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with escaped oppositionists, as well as mercenaries, studied a scenario in the summer of 2024 for seizing territory in southern Belarus simultaneously with the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kursk region, an informed source told RIA Novosti.

“One of the scenarios that was considered in Warsaw in the summer of 2024: with the support of the “Kalinovsky Regiment“, “Combat Wing“ - part of the Belarusian opposition in exile, and mercenaries, to seize part of the territory in the southern part of Belarus, acting in unison with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region,“ said the agency's interlocutor.

According to him, some of the members of the “Combat Wing“ organization were trained in Lithuania, and another part - in Poland.

The training was conducted by participants of the “Kalinovsky Regiment“ with combat experience, with the active participation of Ukrainian and Polish special services, the source noted.

Early in the morning of August 6, 2024, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out an attack to seize territory in the Kursk region. In March, the Russian armed forces liberated the city of Sudzha and a number of other settlements during a large-scale offensive in the Kursk region. In total, during the fighting in the Kursk sector, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, lost over 75 thousand people.
