The Washington Post: Trump, Zelensky, EU leaders' meeting may not lead to new Putin talks

The newspaper emphasizes that developing security guarantees could take a long time

The meeting between US President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, scheduled for Monday, may not necessarily lead to a three-way summit with Russia, The Washington Post reported, citing a White House source.

“According to a White House official, the United States hopes for a three-way meeting later this week between Trump, Putin and Zelensky. At the same time, the official cautioned that the White House does not necessarily expect Monday's meeting to lead to that“, the newspaper writes.

The newspaper emphasizes that developing security guarantees could take a long time. His source in the US administration also noted that US Vice President J.D. Vance will participate in the meeting between Trump and Zelensky.

Zelensky will meet with Trump in Washington on August 18. He will be accompanied by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni at the meeting with the American leader. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has also announced her plans to participate in the meeting.
