The number of Bulgarians who choose abroad as a place for their summer vacation is growing, according to the latest data of the National statistical institute (NSI).
In June this year, a total of 347,900 Bulgarians traveled abroad on holiday. Compared to last June, a growth of 13% is reported. In comparison, in June 2019 – the year before the start of the pandemic, there were 255,046 vacation trips by Bulgarians abroad.
The largest number of trips by Bulgarian citizens were made to our neighboring countries: Turkey, Greece and Romania.
A slight increase, compared to the year before the pandemic, was registered in the number of foreign tourists who chose our country for a summer holiday. In 2019, their number was 769,662, and in June 2024 – 786 477.
In June 2024, the number of visits by foreign citizens to Bulgaria was 1,473 million, or 5.8% more compared to the same month of the previous year. An increase in trips for the following purposes was registered: vacation and excursion – with 11.2%, with other goals – by 1%, while those with a business purpose decreased by 3%. Transit crossings through the country are 31% (456,000) of all visits by foreign citizens to Bulgaria.
