The head of the opposition bloc "Pobeda" in Moldova, Ilan Shor announced the possibility of building a nuclear power plant with Russian support, following the example of Russian-Belarusian cooperation. He made this appeal ahead of the upcoming referendum on October 20, calling on his fellow citizens to vote against declaring EU membership a strategic goal of the state.

„My program includes the construction of a nuclear power plant that will enable the citizens of Moldova to receive practically free or very cheap electricity. Today, such a program is already working in Belarus, where such a station was built with the support of the Russian Federation. I will achieve it and build it in Moldova”, Shor said in a video message on his Telegramchannel.

The agreement on the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was concluded in 2011, and the first power unit was put into operation in 2021. The power of the station today is almost five times greater than the needs of Moldova.

Based on the results of the referendum, it is proposed to add the words “affirmation of the European identity of the people of the Republic of Moldova and the irreversibility of the European course of the Republic of Moldova to the Constitution of Moldova. Moldova, declaring integration into the European Union a strategic goal. The referendum will be held simultaneously with the presidential elections. Block "Victory" was not allowed to participate in either the elections or the referendum.
