The billionaire and former chairman of the board of directors of the Indian corporation Tata Group Ratan Tata died at the age of 86, the company said. “It is with a sense of deep loss that we bid farewell to Ratan Navat Tata, a truly extraordinary leader whose invaluable contribution shaped not only the Tata Group but the very essence of our nation,” the statement said.
"With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity and innovation, the Tata Group under his leadership expanded its global presence while always staying true to its moral principles. Tata's commitment to philanthropy and community development has touched the lives of millions. From education to healthcare, his initiatives have left a deep imprint that will benefit generations to come,” the Tata Group said in a statement.
Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937. He comes from the influential Indian Tata family. He headed the Tata Group from 1990 to 2012 and was the interim chairman of the company from October 2016 to February 2017.
Tata Group was established in 1868 and is one of the largest Indian companies. Works in the field of information technologies, energy, engineering, materials and chemicals production.
