The Polish government has decided to allocate nearly 60 billion zlotys (15 billion USD) for the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant (NPP) on the Baltic Sea coast.
"The government has decided to allocate funds for the implementation of the project to build the first nuclear power plant in Poland. Between 2025 and 2030, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe will receive 60.2 billion zlotys to support this strategic investment in the energy sector“, said a statement published on the website of the Polish Prime Minister's Office.
The total cost of the construction of the nuclear power plant is estimated at 115 billion zlotys (28 billion USD). Its start-up is planned for 2026. The plant's first AP1000 reactor, manufactured by Westinghouse, with a capacity of 1.1 GW, should produce electricity in 2033. The site for the nuclear power plant has been chosen in the village of Lyubyatovo-Kopalino, near the Baltic Sea coast.
