Ukraine is reducing its electricity purchases from the EU as the failure in its grid does not allows it to transport sufficient electricity to its consumers. This was announced by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU, Attila Steiner, at a press conference after the meeting of the EU energy ministers.
„Countries neighboring Ukraine, including my country, Hungary, supply electricity to Ukraine. This summer we saw Ukraine become a net importer of electricity. But we have also seen its imports begin to decline as its electricity grid is damaged and Ukraine cannot transport the required amount of electricity to consumers,” he said.
Steiner stressed that EU countries are exploring the possibilities of helping Ukraine maintain the functionality of its energy network.
