Wine prices in Ukraine will increase by 50% in wholesale and retail by the end of 2024. Such measures are dictated by rising energy prices and general inflation, reports Channel 24.

As the head of the committee on agrarian and land policy of the Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Gaydu, explained, the parliament recently supported a law to increase taxes. The initiators expect this to bring about 2 billion hryvnias (48.5 million USD) to the state budget. According to the deputy, wine-growing products have become more expensive due to rising energy prices, increased wages and general inflation.

Wine prices must rise to a level that covers production costs. In addition, he emphasized that the viticultural sector needs support, such measures should stimulate new investments in the sector.

The Ukrainian parliament believes that such a price increase will contribute to the fight against the shadow alcohol market and increase revenues in the state budget.

Earlier, Channel 24 reported that amid the armed conflict, Ukrainian grapes have risen in price due to reduced supply. The fighting and damage to infrastructure disrupted supply chains, affecting the speed and volume of grape deliveries from the southern regions to other parts of Ukraine. Increased fuel costs also affected prices.
