The public debt of the Czech Republic in the three quarters of 2024 increased by 223.1 billion kroner (about 9.6 billion USD) and amounted to 3.334 trillion kroner (about 143.4 billion USD), the news portal Blesk reported with reference to the Ministry of Finance of the Republic.
According to him, the size of the national debt has reached the largest size in history. In terms of the number of citizens of a republic of 10 million, the theoretical debt of each of them is 306,460 kroner (about 13,100 USD).
Experts attribute the growth of the government debt mainly to the new issues of government bonds. The Ministry of Finance uses them to finance last year's budget deficit and to refinance bonds that are about to be called. In relation to the GDP of the republic, in the last three quarters, the amount of public debt increased by 1.5% to 42.3%.
