Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he discussed with Kazakh leader Kasim- Zhomart Tokaev the possibility of new routes for the supply of oil and gas to other countries, including China.

„We also discussed the possibility of creating new routes for pumping our oil and gas to third countries, primarily in China, including through the territory of Kazakhstan. These are very profitable, interesting and promising routes and projects”, said the President of the Russian Federation, answering questions from journalists.

„Of course, they will contribute to the stabilization of the world economy and, of course, above all in the Asia-Pacific region. Well, this will create additional opportunities for us to work in the markets,” Putin added.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Russia and China are now considering a new gas route through Kazakhstan for 35 billion cubic meters. At the same time, the development of this route is at an initial stage, it may pass through eastern Kazakhstan.

A day ago, Tokaev said that the Kazakh authorities are studying the issue of long-term supplies of Russian gas to the republic.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar noted that the authorities of Kazakhstan, together with Russia and Uzbekistan, are modernizing the gas transportation system to increase the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. On October 7, 2023 the presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin, of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev launched the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan via the Central Asia gas pipeline – Center.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, an increase in the annual volume of transportation of Russian gas to Uzbekistan from 1.28 billion cubic meters in 2023 has been determined. to 3.8 billion cubic meters in 2024. In the future, the supply is planned to increase to 11 billion cubic meters per year.
