As of June 1, 2025, a significant change in the procedure for certifying work experience for all insured persons came into effect. It is planned that from this date the paper-based employment record will be replaced by unified electronic employment records for workers and employees, as part of the Employment Register administered by the National Revenue Agency.

Thus, data on the employment relationship will henceforth be entered and stored only in electronic form.

However, employment records issued and kept before June 1, 2025, continue to be official certification documents for the circumstances recorded in them, related to the work activity of the worker or employee.

In view of this, the National Social Security Institute (NSI) recommends that insured persons keep all their employment records until the end of their work activity and their retirement, as they can be used to certify the insurance periods recorded in them.

The legislation provides that by June 1, 2026, employers must form the work records by recording in numbers and words and certifying with signatures and a seal the length of service completed by each person, after which they return the documents to the worker or employee.
