Toma Bykov: If ITN returns the mandate immediately, there could be 2 in 1 elections - 1

Purely party-wise and as a strategy for the pre-election campaign, we have no claims whether the elections should be 2 in 1 or separate. This is the president's commitment, so we will comply.

This is what GERB-SDS MP Toma Bikov told Nova TV.

In his words, the party is “trying to have a position on issues that depend on it”. “I think that since the president is handing over a mandate to ITN today, if they return it immediately, it would be possible to enter the deadline for a 2 in 1 vote. It would even be possible to enter the deadline for June 2. There is enough time. The term has not expired. I don't see why there is this tension," he stressed.

At the moment I don't think we have a constitutional crisis, but another question is who is the most optimal candidate. A crisis can always be reached. Our position when adopting the constitution was that what is related to the caretaker government should be limited to the continuity of the mandate of the National Assembly and thus enable Parliament to control the caretaker cabinet so that it is not uncontrolled. This was our proposal, the PP-DB colleagues insisted on accepting the version that is currently available. And we, as people who participate in a common constitutional majority, supported this proposal of theirs, he stated.

What we tried to do was to protect the constitutional changes from possible repeal by the SC. There cannot be a caretaker government if a Grand National Assembly is not convened. And Mr. Ivanov should know it, since he is a person who primarily deals with the constitution, explained Bykov.

Executive governments can be overturned by the Supreme Court because they are listed in the section on the powers of the presidential institution. This means taking away powers from the presidential institution, which can only happen with the Supreme Court. That's why we told them to be a little more careful with these changes, so that it doesn't turn out that we did something that was then undone, added Bykov.

The former deputy ombudsman is a respected person who is engaged in human rights activities, I do not know her. I'd be surprised if we weren't under suspicion, but I'm telling you that none of us ever talked to her on any occasion.

I have a suspicion that the same thing will happen with some of the judicial changes, because there was also a rush, there were a lot of opinions from people respected by all institutions who warned of certain risks - God forbid they were wrong, he added Bykov.
