Political are the reasons for the postponement of Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone. This is the position of the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, Dimitar Radev, which he expressed to BNT.
"Entering the Eurozone will make Bulgaria a bigger beneficiary than before. That is, obviously, when you participate in such a union and in its various mechanisms, you have some commitments. But what you pay in terms of commitments is much less than what you receive," said Dimitar Radev.
He noted that Croatia's entry into the Eurozone "brought an automatic two-notch credit rating increase, and that is measured in a lot of money. Before Croatia entered the Eurozone, Bulgaria had a better credit rating, while now we have a lower one.
The governor of the BNB recalled that until 2019, Bulgaria and Croatia moved together, but in 2020, the roads diverged.
"This happened on the day Croatia's entry into the Eurozone was announced, while the political crisis began in Bulgaria. What we lack in our country is the appropriate political framework to set this process in motion.
This is not a technical process, but a political decision. What is important in this process is what is relatively little talked about - a clear idea of the country's direction and belonging. Otherwise, in purely practical terms, the changes will not be as dramatic as some people try to make them out to be. People won't even feel them", commented the BNB governor.
