Another Bulgarian citizen remains in Hamas captivity - 1

Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev spoke with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar. The two discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, including the practical implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of all hostages. In an interview with BNT, quoted by FOCUS, he said that he thanked Israel for the good outcome with the hostage of Bulgarian origin Daniela Gilboa.

"Similar to what we saw days earlier with our two sailors who returned from captivity in Yemen, and here too many are heartbroken. What Bulgaria hopes for and insists on at all possible levels is that the parties adhere to the agreement reached. There is still one Bulgarian citizen who is in captivity and we hope that his release will happen very soon. We hope that he is in good health and that we will see him at home very soon," said Georgiev.

When this might happen is impossible to predict, the minister said. The main condition is that the ceasefire be maintained.

According to him, it is very important when talking about these topics to be sufficiently measured. "This way we can also guarantee the security of these people, not to go to extremes in terms of comments, because there are processes that like silence. The situation is considered very delicate, fragile, because at any moment events can occur that could bring turbulence to this fragile peace, he explained.

Bulgaria calls for strict adherence to the agreements made in order to normalize the situation in the Middle East, the minister said.

And he added: "I want to express my gratitude to the countries mediating the establishment of a ceasefire in the Middle East - Qatar, Egypt and the United States. Our national security also depends on this, both in light of the migrant flows and the protection of the EU's external border".

Our country has confirmed its support for the imminent holding of a full-fledged Association Council between the European Union and Israel.
