Plamen Dimitrov: We are one of the countries with the most expensive food products

“Incomes are really growing. Over 17% is the growth of average incomes in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023. Unfortunately, however, a third of Bulgarians receive a salary of up to 1,000 BGN, which is scandalous in itself, given that the minimum wage is 933 BGN, the president of the National Security Council specified.

Plamen Dimitrov: We are one of the countries with the most expensive food products - 1

„We want a minimum 10% increase in the income of Bulgarians. We Bulgarians have the lowest minimum wage, this is not news. We've known that for a long time. Even in euros or leva, however we measure them – we are still there.“ This was stated in the show “Face to Face” on bTV the president of the National Security Council Plamen Dimitrov, quoted by novini.bg

„Bulgaria is one of the most expensive countries in terms of food products. It is absurd to claim that in countries like France, Germany and Great Britain they get more because it is more expensive for them – their food is not more expensive. This is a fact“, Plamen Dimitrov also said.

„Incomes are really growing. Over 17% is the growth of average incomes in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023. Unfortunately, however, a third of Bulgarians receive a salary of up to 1,000 BGN, which is scandalous in itself, given that the minimum wage is 933 BGN”, said the president of the National Security Council.
„We have to look at the general balance of income. Nice – all say education is a priority. Now because of the war and the army it became a priority. Of course – this is also important. But how should a teacher react when at the moment the starting salary of a teacher is just under 2,000 BGN, but now it seems small against the background of 2,300 BGN for a soldier, which has been set since January 1”, added Dimitrov.

In his words, the market “dictates“ that the salary increase for teachers is low as long as there is a lack of personnel in the field.

„Business claims that around 250,000 jobs remain unfilled in Bulgaria. Unfortunately, they are less qualified and have less income. The problem is where the rate of profit on added value is extremely low. In some sectors such as hospitality, construction, trade – we have done what is necessary there. The business can import workers”, further specified Plamen Dimitrov.
