At least 15 people have been killed in Mexico since Monday and 20 kidnapped amid internal struggles in "Sinaloa", one of the two most influential cartels in the country, reported the local prosecutor's office, quoted by AFP and BTA.
The armed clashes in the capital of the state of Sinaloa Culiacan and its surroundings took place after the arrest of one of the leaders - Ismael Sambada - El Mayo, co-founder of the cartel together with Joaquin Guzmán - El Chapo, who is serving a life sentence in the USA.
El Mayo was captured on July 25 by US authorities at the same time as Joaquin Guzman Lopez, one of El Chapo's sons.
In a letter, he accuses Joaquín Guzmán López of setting a trap to kidnap him and take him to the United States.
„The rivalry stems from the events of July 25 (the arrest of Ismael Sambada) and the fact that two groups are involved,” Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha Moya said in an interview. According to him, the two groups in conflict are those of Ismael Sambada and El Chapo's sons.
