It is not possible to produce pagers in Bulgaria - bombs. This is what Prof. Stancho Petkov, an expert on explosive devices, told bTV.
„It is about modern technology considering the massiveness that results from such an explosion. The device is activated via a satellite connection. Dozens of such devices owned by different citizens can explode at the same time,”, the expert pointed out.
Prof. Stancho Petkov explained that the device itself has a power source – it's the battery in the pager itself.
Inside it is installed a detonator and an explosive substance. And in order to get to an explosion, there is a built-in chip inside, through which all the processes in the device can be activated.
„The processes are activated in the same way as a person receives a message on his mobile phone,”, he explained.
According to him, it is not a problem to make such a device, but it takes much more time to organize attacks on such a scale as in Lebanon and Syria. This requires organizing the production of tens or hundreds of such devices, as well as their distribution, so as to achieve the set goal.
„This can be organized in a few months, taking into account modern technologies and the fact that people massively use such means of communication. However, such a thing cannot be done in a garage, an assembly line is required. We cannot produce such devices, despite attempts to be attacked along these lines”, explained Prof. Petkov.
He suggested that the devices were probably manufactured somewhere in Asia - possibly a high-tech chip-making country.
