Slavi Vasilev: The big winner of this political mess will be GERB - 1

"In this seventh election, we will crash again. The problem is not how to have a majority, but how to ensure that the majority that will be created is not subject to Peevski, Borisov and the personal interests of a few powerful figures. This is a structural issue. The 51st Parliament will not produce a sustainable majority that will serve a full term.

This is what the political scientist Slavi Vassilev predicted before the BNR.

According to him, it is quite reasonable for people not to trust the parties. One of the reasons for this is that neither party is implementing its program, he explained. And added:

"Government in Bulgaria is not a function of the will of one party or another, but a function of the compromise between different political subjects. This compromise always distorts the will of the parties before the voters. All of them promise different policies, benefits, but in the end, none of this happens. After 7 elections in a row, I think it is quite clear that politics in Bulgaria is not a function of the will of the parties, it is absolutely unknown, it is formed in an unknown way, behind the scenes, and that is why people demonstrate such an attitude, which is an expression of voter turnout. ;.

In the show "12+3" the political scientist made another prediction - that voter turnout will fall even in the upcoming early parliamentary elections:

"I suspect that for the first time in the history of the country, we could see voter turnout in a parliamentary election in which fewer than 2 million citizens participate.

According to him, in the situation thus created, GERB are well positioned before the elections:

"This is a completely natural reaction – when you don't know what's next, it's better to choose the familiar, even if you don't like it, than to put your eggs in a basket that may turn out to be full. As many baskets have been blown recently, people will instinctively choose safety. Our political environment is so pathetic that Borisov and GERB will certainly come out ahead. I think they will come out very ahead.

If there is a majority in the next National Assembly, it will be around GERB, Peevski's DPS plus some garnish, which will be dressed in expert clothes and will present itself to the people as almost the cabinet of the last chance, Slavi Vassilev expressed his opinion.

He thinks that in these elections some of the ethnic Turks, who have always been mainly with Ahmed Dogan, can choose Delyan Peevski. The reason, according to him, is that Peevski seems closer to power than Dogan. According to him, however, another part of them will go to GERB. He admits that for the first time in Kardzhali GERB can serve 2 mandates – more than the two DPS, which if it happens will be a precedent. "The big winner of this political mess will be GERB and we will have a fragmented parliament in which it will be very difficult to reach agreement and a majority on key topics," the political scientist warned.

He also commented on the new left unity. According to him, it is good that there is unification, but he thinks that there is a total lack of ideology.

"I don't think that at this stage the new left alliance will be able to return the BSP to where it belongs.

When there is no ideology, individual elements make an impression, Vassilev said, referring to Evgeni Minchev, who will be a candidate for deputy on the list of the "BSP - United Left" Coalition. "The level is like that. Evgeni Minchev will not be worse. I even think that he has the qualities to be better than what is in the current parliament", he expressed his opinion.

Slavi Vassilev supports the change of the electoral system. For him, the majoritarian electoral system would be a step in the right direction.

There are no political leaders, fathers of the nation in Bulgaria, he was categorical. But he added his opinion that the country's problem is not in the personalities in the National Assembly:

"I don't think we can produce better politicians. The problem is structural, systemic. We need to think not about who should replace Borisov, but how a Boyko Borisov, when he appears, cannot usurp the state – let's return the protective mechanisms of the state so that it can deal with one Peevski".

According to him "the only father of the nation must appear – the president to point out the problem".
