Official Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov will participate today at the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Global Coalition to Fight ISIS (Daesh), which will be held at the US State Department in Washington, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced, quoted by BTA.< /p>
The anniversary meeting marks 10 years since the creation of the Global Coalition to Fight ISIS, with the foreign ministers of the 87 member states expected to take stock of progress made in stabilizing the liberated areas and renew their collective commitment to cooperation aimed at towards strengthening regional stability.
The meeting will discuss the need to strengthen joint counter-terrorism efforts and cooperation between partners to defeat ISIS (Daesh) wherever it operates, given its continued spread in poorly governed areas in the Middle East and Africa . Ministers will make a strong call to bring detained terrorists to justice and to block terrorists' access to resources and funding in order to disrupt their operations in the core of Iraq and Syria, as well as affiliates in Asia and Africa.
The participation of Minister Ivan Kondov in the Meeting is at the invitation of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Bulgaria is involved in international efforts related to countering international terrorism, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As an active participant in the counter-terrorism initiatives of the UN, the EU, NATO, the Council of Europe, and as a member of the Global Coalition to Fight ISIS (Daesh), Bulgaria is making serious efforts to improve its tools to prevent and fight terrorism through direct implementation of the sanctions introduced by the UNSC in relation to the sanctions regime against ISIS (Daesh) and Al Qaeda, and the criminalization of terrorist financing, in accordance with UNSC Resolutions 1373 (2001) and 2178 (2014). In this regard, Bulgaria is among the group of UN member states that submit strict and complete reports on the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism.
