Celebrations on the occasion of the 1010th anniversary of the death of King Samuil - 1

Under the patronage of President Rumen Radev, in the National Park-Museum "Samuel's Fortress", near the village of Klyuch, Petri, will be held the celebrations on the occasion of the 1010th anniversary of the death of the Bulgarian king Samuil, reports BNR.

The 17-year reign of King Samuil, proclaimed by the Pope as emperor of the Bulgarians in 997, was marked by heavy and incessant battles with Byzantium, in which Bulgaria managed to regain lost territories and access to three seas. At the beginning of 1014, at the foot of Belasitsa, the troops of Emperor Basil II dealt a crushing blow to the Bulgarian warriors and captured 15 thousand of them.

Most of them are blinded, and when the wounded King Samuel learns this, he dies of a heart attack. The date is October 6, 1014. These events will be recreated in a literary and musical performance in the National Park-Museum "Samuel's Fortress", which starts at 6:30 p.m. A funeral prayer will be offered by His Holiness Daniil, Patriarch of Bulgaria, after which the solemn dawn-check will begin.

President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev will accept the rank of honor and deliver a speech.

The program of celebrations continues on October 6, Sunday, with the International Scientific Conference "Samuel's Bulgaria - History and Culture", which will be held in the historical museum of the town of Petrich.
