Football analysts and local football legends Ian Wright and Roy Keane united around the opinion that Lee Carsley has no future at the head of the English national team, reported sportal.bg.
Carsley stood temporarily at the head of the “three lions” after the defeat in the Euro 2024 final and the departure of Gareth Southgate.
In September he achieved two victories in Eire and Finland, but in October he suffered a historic defeat by Greece at “Wembley”, and on Sunday night he achieved another success over Finland, this time in Helsinki. However, Carsley has made it clear on several occasions that he is on a temporary basis and prefers to return to the youth national team, from where he was moved to the men's side.
“I think if you're in that position and you don't have the passion to say you want the job permanently, then it's probably not for you. What I hear from him is that he is talking about returning to the youth national team and is not looking at staying with the men's team. I'll be happy to see him do what he wants to do,” Wright stated.
A similar opinion was expressed by Roy Keane, who also drew attention to the messages sent by Carsley to the fans.
“His message over the last month and more is that he has been given the job and will focus on the games ahead. That's what he's been told by the FA to do and he's not going to send a message that he's desperate for the job. I remember that a few years ago he said that he didn't want to work in men's football, that he wanted to work with young players and he felt more comfortable there. Obviously, everyone has the right to change their mind, and he tried. But then you get a bad taste from all the publicity and you're like, 'Is this really what I want?'" Keane said.
