< p>In the third quarter of this year, the average salary for the country was BGN 2,275 and increased by 13.8 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, but marked a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to the second quarter of the current year. For the period July - September, the number of employed persons decreased by 1 percent compared to the second quarter, but on an annual basis there was a growth of 1.2 percent. The data was published in the November newsletter on the living standards of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

The average salary in the private sector is BGN 2,256 in the third quarter and is lower than that in the public sector, where it reaches - BGN 2,331. The highest average salary in the third quarter of the year is reported in the economic activity "Creation and distribution of information and creative products, telecommunications". – BGN 5,127, with an increase of 9.8 percent in one year, and in the state administration, the average salary reaches BGN 2,671, and on an annual basis, the growth is 10.8 percent.

The lowest average salary is in the economic activity "Hotel and restaurant industry" - BGN 1,495, despite the noted growth of over 18 percent on an annual basis. By region in the country, in the third quarter, Sofia-city had the highest average salary - BGN 3,100, or 36 percent more than the average for the country. The district with the lowest average salary is Smolyan – BGN 1,524, or about 67 percent of the national average. The other areas with low salaries are Blagoevgrad, Vidin, Kyustendil, Silistra, where the average salary is below BGN 1,600.
