Adv. Nikolay Hadzhigenov: Rules should be built so that it doesn't matter who exactly will be the chief prosecutor - 1

Just as Ivan Geshev became chief prosecutor, now whether Borislav Sarafov will become one or not, it doesn't matter at all, because if it's not Sarafov, it will be the next one like him.

This was what lawyer Nikolay Hadzhigenov told the Bulgarian National Radio.

"Rules should be built so that it doesn't matter at all who exactly will be the chief prosecutor. Fixating on a certain person is a problem. And the fact that Sarafov is not suitable makes no sense to comment on it. A person who can, knows and is good at it should be elected as the Prosecutor General.
According to the lawyer, it does not matter whether Sarafov's election will be stopped now that this Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), whose mandate has expired, will elect the next Prosecutor General:

"The problem is in the political quotas in the SJC. The idea was to have civilian control, but that did not work. This turned into a body trade and a terrifying bargain. And ultimately it led to political control, party control in the interests of certain individuals, corrupt control over the entire judiciary and justice in general. This applies to all bodies in which there are political quotas. This does not work, this is evil and is in the service of political corruption".

According to Nikolay Hadzhigenov, the choice of the three big ones in the judicial system is always flawed from the start.
There is a desired unison between the formation of a government with the GERB mandate and the changes to the Judiciary Law, Hadzhigenov believes:

"And this unison is called preserving the corruption model of Borisov and Peevski at all costs".
