Another protest on the road between Kyustendil and the village of Yabalkovo due to the death of 18-year-old Andrea, reports BNT. The girl died after a serious horse accident at the end of last year.
An inspection by the European Center for Transport Policies found numerous gaps and deficiencies in the section that threaten traffic safety.
The inspection has revealed a systematic neglect of road maintenance, with some of the identified problems already reported to the competent institutions, including the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW), the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API), Regional Road Administration - Kyustendil, General Directorate "National Police" (GDNP), OD of the Ministry of Interior Kyustendil, State Agency "Road Traffic Safety" (DABDP) and Kyustendil Municipality.
ECTP offers specific recommendations for improving the road infrastructure and traffic organization. These include measures for maintenance, improving visibility, signaling and optimizing the speed limit. The institutions are expected to take action within their competence based on the findings.
The section does not meet the current standards, as well as those of the last 10 years. Protesters are gathering once again today on the road where 18-year-old Andrea died. They want to hear from the responsible institutions both the results of the inspections, which were supposed to be ready on January 15, and specific measures to ensure safety. Last year alone, 6 accidents occurred in this section, BNT recalls.
Today, there is also thick fog in the Kyustendil region. The RIA warns of reduced visibility of 30 to 50 meters on the "Struma" and "Trakia" highways, as well as in the regions of Sandanski and Pernik.
