Yuri Aslanov predicts a bleak future for the BSP - 1

The BSP probably faces a rather unhappy fate after participating in the current cabinet. I admire the heroic efforts that the BSP leaders are making to motivate their decision, but it seems to me that they are in vain and will in no way escape responsibility.

This is what sociologist Yuri Aslanov told FOCUS.

According to him, it is the BSP that will suffer the most from its participation in the government.

"They crossed a red line that will not be forgiven or forgotten. And this has its own explanation - the attitudes of left-wing voters differ significantly from the attitudes of all other voters. They have certain expectations, the party leadership does not justify them and then they present the bill in the next elections and the party suffers losses", explained the sociologist.

In essence, the cabinet is a coalition between the political parties participating in it, emphasized Yuri Aslanov.

"This coalition in the eyes of Europeans is certainly very strange, because it involves the four largest European families – the European People's Party, the Socialists and Democrats, the Conservatives and Reformists and the Liberals. Borisov has communicated directly with Todor Zhivkov and the Tsar in close proximity for too long, and what he has managed to learn from them is the ability to maneuver in a complex geopolitical situation and use the contradictions between the great powers in troubled times. He has decided that in this unclear situation he can do something that until recently he did not dare because of the reaction of his European partners and "bosses" – to openly form a coalition with both the MRF and the BSP. Now, apparently, this barrier has fallen and he decided to take a risk because he realized that his formation could follow the fate of other similar political parties that were splitting, mired in scandals, and falling apart. Most likely, he realized that the danger was already coming from within, from his own group, and his leadership was under threat," he explained.

The GERB leader also uses the contradictions in the parties with which he is in coalition, the sociologist added.

According to him, it was Borisov who put pressure on Interior Minister Daniel Mitov to appoint the appointed head of the political cabinet of the Ministry of Interior. "He always did such things when some protest groups appeared in front of his windows. Still, he realizes that he is not number one in Sofia, and given that the city's right-wing is currently in opposition and can certainly become even more radicalized, this scares him. Thanks to his intuition in such situations, he will be able to maneuver, to take sharp turns in such a way as to follow the waves of positive public opinion, at least from his point of view," Aslanov said.

He believes that the main risk to the stability of the government is corruption. "The first corruption scandal could lead to an unexpected shake-up in the coalition, and to the extent that this is inevitable, I believe that this ruling coalition has a wide minefield to wade through. It will be a miracle if a mine doesn't strike," Aslanov commented.
