„In my opinion, the answer to the question of whether we will enter the eurozone next year is like whether we will qualify for the World Cup next year – it depends on our efforts“.
This was said in an interview with „This Morning“ on bTV Atanas Pekanov, former Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the management of European funds.
„I think that our chances are better for the euro, but the most important thing is that it depends on us at the moment. It depends on the budget – from what the deputies will adopt in a few weeks“, added Pekanov.
He warned that entering the eurozone will also require a little realism.
According to him, it is not too late to request a convergence report on our country's readiness for the eurozone by mid-March. And he reminded that before that, a budget must be adopted that shows sustainable public finances.
„It is ironic that for 10 years I criticized Simeon Djankov's policy - of lean pizza, and I think I was right, because it was too lean and for many years it did not help incomes grow. But it is true that we are currently in a situation where we need to curb state spending a little“, also commented Pekanov.
