Due to the frequent accidents with scooters, the Municipality of Kyustendil introduced strict measures for their use. Children are no longer allowed to ride them in public, and everyone else will have to follow a series of new rules to avoid fines. Fast riding, in dangerous places and more than one person on the electric scooter. These are only some of the violations, BNT specifies.

"No helmets, often times two and more as possible. In the dark hours, without reflective elements", comments Desislava Tsvetkova - Commission for the fight against anti-social behavior of minors.

"There are not a few cases when children under the age of 10 are given similar vehicles by their parents. The regular case is that his hands, the rudder is over his head, and he holds his hands like that. They can't", said Ognyan Atanasov – mayor of Kyustendil.

At its last meeting, the Municipal Council in Kyustendil adopted an ordinance that prohibited children under the age of 14 from riding electric scooters, and allowed youths up to the age of 18 to ride only on bike lanes.

"There should be rules. Both rights and obligations of all participants", says Desislava Tsvetkova - Local Commission for the fight against anti-social behavior of minors.

"Even high fuel prices don't justify two men riding an electric scooter. This is just a joke, but they are not allowed to ride with two people, they are not allowed to ride without reflective elements on their clothes. It is mandatory that the individual technical vehicle has a front light, i.e. headlights, to have a stop light, to have a working bell and a working brake", Ognyan Atanasov believes – mayor of Kyustendil.

The fines are preventive and are below one hundred BGN for individual violations, with the main goal being to prevent more serious incidents. The employees of the municipal security unit will monitor compliance with the ordinance.
