The Haskovo District Court has permanently remanded 55-year-old Yanko Todorov, better known as Yanko Politsaya, in custody, dariknews.bg reported.
He has been charged with attempted murder of Svilengrad businessman Dimitar Nikolov - Shopa.
On January 28, Nikolov was attacked in his car on the road between the villages of Momkovo and Svilengrad. Yanko-Politsaya pointed a gun at him, and during the ensuing scuffle between the two, a shot was fired, hitting the roof of the car.
Yanko-Politsaya was brought to the courtroom at around 11 a.m. in handcuffs.
The prosecutor's office has no information whether the two know each other. All kinds of motives are being investigated, including unresolved relationships with the victim. Various versions are being worked on, and a guarantee from abroad is not ruled out.
Over the years, Yanko the Policeman has been convicted of possessing firearms without a permit. His last sentence was for drug trafficking in 2010. He served it and was released early in 2013, announced the prosecutor in the case, Atanas Palkhutev. He also said that there is no evidence of the accused entering or leaving the country. If found guilty, Yanko the Policeman could receive a minimum of 10 years in prison.
