Employees of the "Customs" Agency thwarted the smuggling of narcotic substances at the "Captain Andreevo" border crossing. During a thorough inspection of a truck with foreign registration, 13,230 grams of cocaine worth BGN 4,159,512 were found.
Crime detection
On November 15, 2024, customs officials directed a truck traveling from Romania to Turkey for a thorough inspection. The driver of the vehicle, a Turkish citizen, presented regular documents for the transported goods, and did not declare the transfer of other items or currency values.
During the inspection carried out by the "risk analysis" method, 9 polyethylene bags were found in a special factory cavity in the floor of the semi-trailer. Their contents - a white powdery substance - gave a positive reaction when tested with a field drug test for cocaine.
Legal consequences
The District Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv has initiated pre-trial proceedings on the case. By decree of the supervising prosecutor, the driver was detained for up to 72 hours. A request to be submitted to the court by the District Prosecutor's Office in Haskovo for the determination of a remand measure "detention in custody" is pending.
