FAKTI.BG publishes opinions with a wide range of perspectives to encourage constructive debates.

Those days, ex-president Petar Stoyanov appeared on “Na fokus“/“Nova televizija“ and took good care of himself. He had been announced as the “president-unifier“ and he tried to convince the viewers that he was exactly that.

29 years after the dramatic events of January 10, 1997 - to which the interview with him was dedicated, he still believes that it was he who was responsible for the peaceful outcome of those January days.

This was recalled on “Facebook” by Kevork Kevorkian.

By the way, sometimes he took “another step“ - as he put it - in the direction of “the unknown“, to share some puzzling things, for example: “I didn't want the BSP to be completely backed into a corner, that would have hindered my plans for NATO“. His plans?

P. Stoyanov is within his right to plead for his truth. After all, History is written and preserved in this way – with the testimonies of various participants or witnesses, as long as they withstand the test of Time.

However, in this regard we are quite careless and because of this even our most recent history abounds with inaccuracies and contradictions, which give various episodes of it frivolity and frivolity and even make us doubt its credibility as a whole.

There are already enough personalities like those who we call “Keepers of Memory“, people who certify the truth of one or another statement – and who guarantee that History is written and preserved in an honest manner. For many years now, no one has been interested in the integrity of modern chroniclers, in their loyalty to the Truth.

Today, History is very often torn apart by their dishonesty – that is why in the end we will simply be dealing with a harlot, if anyone is interested in her at all…

In the same edition of “In Focus“, the businessman Krasimir Stoychev, who was famous years ago, also participated, and among other stories from his life and existence, shared a curious fact: in the days before that

January 10, he was the mediator of a secret meeting between the leader of the United Democratic Forces Ivan Kostov and Nikolay Dobrev, who was supposed to receive on behalf of BSP new mandate for governance.

Stoychev's statement was probably supposed to cause a sensation - except that it turned out to be news.

I will quote a fragment of my correspondence from years ago.

„On October 7, 2012, Zhan Videnov said in „Vsika Nedelja“ that in the midst of the events of 1997, Kostov met with Nikolay Dobrev, the strong man in the BSP, voted for prime minister.

Excerpt from the interview.

Videnov: „I proposed Nikolay Dobrev for party chairman and prime minister, because at that time he was the strongest person in the ruling party/BSP… He got scared. And then he betrayed…“

Question: „What was Kostov's role in the so-called „betrayal“ of Dobrev?“

Videnov: „My people from „Positano“ wanted guarantees from him that he would not touch them. And they got them…“(end of interview).

This was a real bombshell.

Both the UDF and the BSP croaked – it was not true.

I let them croak and on October 14 I invited the mediator to this meeting – journalist Yuliy Moskov, at that time editor-in-chief of the newspaper „Standart“.

Here are the facts he presented.

Dobrev wants Moskov to arrange a meeting for him with Ivan Kostov.

The next day is to be nominated for prime minister - but will accept only if he meets Kostov.

This happens on January 5, 1997.

Kostov agrees immediately, but on one condition: Dobrev must come alone and not know, until 7 p.m., the place of the meeting - and that is the hotel-restaurant "Kopitoto" on Vitosha Mountain.

Moscow picks up Dobrev from the Ministry of Interior, he is the Minister of Interior, and they go to the appointed place.

In the restaurant, closed to visitors, Kostov is waiting for them, as are his wife Elena, as well as businessman Krasimir Stoychev, owner of the newspaper "Standart", and his wife. Kostov's trusted businessman Slavcho Hristov, who runs "Kopitoto", is also there.

Kostov and Dobrev meet separated in one of the apartments of the complex.

After the first meeting, Dobrev and Kostov met six more times.

No one knew about these meetings.

This is Moskov's testimony.

No one dared to refute him.

Everyone pretended not to have heard anything (end of quote).

The secret meeting is no secret at all, for more than 13 years now.

But even now we have not been able to hear from Petar Stoyanov himself his comment on the relationship between the leader of the opposition and the most influential - at that time - personality of the BSP. And the program "In Focus" did not make an attempt to push him to this - in order to confront two stories head-on, at least post facto: the mediator and the unifier. They left the viewers to make their own choice.

Perhaps they chose this approach on purpose, it also has its place in journalism - although it is too passive, at least for the case in question, and it also traps Petar Stoyanov in the trap of uncomfortable silence.

There is something strange in this story - and we need to look

more carefully at it.

Kostov is the all-powerful one, he was and remained so until the end – and in everything, down to the last detail.

Only a complete fool would believe that Kostov would leave such a fateful issue - like the rescue agreement between the UDF and the BSP on the eve of the Storm - in the hands of someone from among his close associates. That he did not even say a word to them about his meetings. And now, so many years later, he wouldn't tell them.

Remember how he fired half the ministers from his cabinet – and still didn't say a word about his motives.

In this respect, he is an absolute monolith – as if we were dealing with a granite monument, the kind he expects to be erected to him in years to come.

The funniest thing after the interview with Videnov were some of the people from Plyukov who were shouting that the Blue Leader couldn't have had secrets from them.

He had - and as many as he wanted.

Here's one of them: why did he leave the role of the "Unifier" to Stoyanov, who hadn't even been sworn in as president yet. Who would trust him – especially from the “reds“, although they usually behave like fools, especially when it comes to their own survival. They are still like that - “Autocannibals“, that's what I called them many years ago.

What did this “unification“ ultimately lead to?

And why was the “unifying president“ left without any chances after his first term?

It's good to hear the answers to these questions from Stoyanov himself – What happened that he was unloved by his own people?

Of course, in our swamp there are no secrets, they are made up by small people who see themselves as magnificent political lovers, but are simply banal cuckolds.

The Kostov-Dobrev conspiracy, however, is of a completely different nature and it would have had dramatic consequences.

And a few more words - about the “Kostov secret“.

Let's finally see: for so many years now the “democratic community“ has not been able to fight off Kostov, to somehow surpass him in at least something. How did he choose them, how did he set them up, that whatever he likes always happens. He made them constantly fight, even though they were otherwise "uniters".

Only one managed to deceive him - the "king", he did it in the presence of the Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar, almost swearing that he would not enter politics - but only a few days later this was already a fact.
